An international, nonprofit organization, SWE was created in 1950 to support and connect women within the engineering field. SWE has over 40,000 members across over 300 collegiate and 100 professional chapters. SWE works to raise awareness for the change engineering can pioneer, build leadership skills, and be a driving force for diversity in engineering.

The Michigan State University SWE chapter was created to connect current students, alumni, and network with companies across the country. Our values align with the international organization and we strive to foster change within the College of Engineering and the companies our SWEsters are involved in. We empower women in STEM, help women succeed in the field, and inspire women and K-12 girls to pursue STEM careers.

Join us biweekly at our general meetings! We bring companies in to talk about their experience as women in the engineering field and provide insight on motivation through college and landing a meaningful job. Each general meeting also has free food, we understand if that is your motivation to get to that first meeting! We hope you continue to join us as we host social and volunteer events throughout the semester as well.

Ultimately, what you get out of SWE is what you put into it - the more you participate in, the more people you will meet and the more fun you will have! You don't have to be a paid member to participate, though there are some benefits to membership.

Want to get even more out of SWE? Run for E-board at our spring elections or serve on a committee. Committee members help the E-board with some of the numerous jobs that are required to keep our chapter of SWE running smoothly. Serving on a committee is a great way to learn what's required of the various E-board positions and an opportunity get to know other SWEsters. As committees are needed throughout the year, you will find information via the newsletters or the general meetings!

We are so excited you are interested in MSU SWE and we hope to see you at our next meeting!

Points System

There are so many awesome benefits to joining SWE! Besides getting to sit in on presentations from amazing companies and eating great food, you also have a chance to win prizes! Before every meeting, there is a QR code to check into a Google Form that keeps track of your attendance. At our last meeting of the semester, these points from the Google Forum are tallied up and the first 10 people with the most amount of points win some awesome prizes. So make sure you fill out the Google forum at the beginning of each meeting! Prizes will be given out at the last meeting of the fall semester as well as the spring semester, so if you miss out the first time you have a chance to win the next time! To collect your prize, you must be present at the last meeting, or it will be given to the next person with the most points.

We recommend the 5-year "Collegiate to Career" membership option which covers 4 years of college and one year of professional membership! At a total cost of $50, this is an incredible opportunity to use the benefits of the national organization. While you do not need to be a national member to attend the MSU chapter events, it is necessary before putting your membership on your resume, applying for conferences, and applying for the scholarship. For more information, visit the national SWE website.
